Fiji Wedding Guide


Fiji weddings are the stuff of dreams. The islands are marketed as one of the finest romantic destinations in the world. There are hundreds of secluded palm-fringed beaches for you to spend a peaceful day alone; tiny uninhabited coral islands to enjoy a picnic and lots of small intimate resorts with beachside thatch bungalows scattered around the islands. And there's lots to do for the more active couple from getting married whilst scuba diving on a coral reef to exploring the tropical rainforest.

Many resorts offer wedding packages from F$ 500 - F$2000. Packages should include the arrangement of a minister, flowers and leis, champagne for guests and a candlelight dinner.

There are a few photographers offering a professional service but the fee will rise considerably on the offshore islands due to travel costs. Otherwise, most resorts have a few snap-happy staff who have learned a few tricks in wedding photography over the years. There are a few video specialists as well if required. All should be booked well in advance.

 What You Need

A marriage license is required to have a wedding in Fiji. These are obtainable within one working day from the Fiji Registry at either Nadi, Suva, Lautoka or Savusavu. Cost F$20, valid 21 days.

Passports
Original birth certificates
Decree Absolute (divorce papers) if relevant
Officially witnessed consent of your father if you are under 21
Death certificate of deceased former spouse
For Catholic weddings, a letter of Freedom sent 2-3 months in advance to the Fijian Priest along with Baptism Certificates.
