Where do you want to go now? Click on an area in the map to visit that region: ![]() Alternatively, start at Nadi International Airport Quick Guide to Fiji Nadi Airport welcomes the majority of international travellers to Fiji, a suburban tourist hub on the dry west side of Viti Levu. Most stay here for a day or two to organize travels to other parts of Fiji, or use it as a convenient and affordable base for exploring the surrounding countryside and offshore islands. The most popular holiday destination in Fiji lies visible off its coast - a gorgeous collection of small islands that make up the Mamanuca Group. Here you’ll find sublime beaches, lots of organized water activities, tiny coral cayes and commercial boutique resorts. Almost as popular, especially with families, are the beach resorts along the south coast of Viti Levu, an hour or so drive from Nadi Airport the large hotels usually offer good value all inclusive packages but there are a handful of small inns and holiday cottages which make a great base for sightseeing or to indulge in adventure tours around Pacific Harbour. Beyond is Suva City, the country’s cosmopolitan and rather gritty capital, an interesting day trip but with little specific tourist appeal except its museum. Travellers in search of sun and sand tend to head straight to the Yasawa Group, a string of pretty volcanic islands with great snorkelling and plenty of budget beach resorts between two and five hours by boat from Nadi. To get off the beaten track though you’ll need to head to the inner coral islands of the Lomaiviti Group with a side trip to tropical Ovalau boasting the quirky old capital and several eco retreats. Scuba divers and nature lovers are drawn to either Kadavu, in the south, which has great snorkelling and remote villages, or north to Savusavu or Taveuni, between which lies the exceptional Rainbow Reef. The most beautiful of the two northern islands is Taveuni - almost half of the island is dedicated as a National Park with lush tropical rainforest, hundreds of waterfalls and several excellent hiking trails. To get completely away from civilisation, consider braving a cargo boat journey to the outliers of the Lau Group or Rotuma where you’ll experience the wonderfully genuine old world lifestyles of the South Seas. To visit these remote regions you’ll need at least a month in Fiji to allow for irregular transportation. Otherwise, some of the best adventures are in exploring the mountainous interior or rugged east coast of Viti Levu, the main island, which ironically has some of Fiji’s remotest and most traditional of villages.
